Count On Me

As another Valentine's Day fills our surroundings with roses and hearts, and my Professors deem that midterms grant me company too, I pause amidst Public Sector Economics and grin.

Life's been great so far. The semester started shaky, but every week brought with it, many "Oh-my-I-was-such-an-idiot" and "Thank-God!" moments. I'm beginning to see how people, experiences, intuitions and miracles have always silently held out an arm and said, count on me. I'm finally sensible to see all that, and I'm glad my world has so many rights. I'm elated that as I brace myself to face the wrongs, they just seem to fondly bid adieu.

Twenty isn't a grand old age. But somehow, I feel like I've come full circle. There will be other shapes to build soon, other mazes to get lost in, other days when I'm sure I'm through... but I'll find my way. I know.

And thats the best part about life and Valentine's Day, we can't really lose anything, not even ourselves... not even if we desperately want to. Because there will be, there always will be, at least one person out there who is currently singing, in his or her completely out of tune voice, "You can count on me like one, two, three and I'll be there..." Who needs you, who wants you, who is hopeless and hopeful and concerned and careful and caring and is in just such plain need of your happiness, that you'll be forced to return.

And the funniest, weirdest part of this whole episode? So many times in our lives, we would be that person. That singing, out-of-tune person... because life's filled with just so many people who make our world go around, that we can't help but forget our little problems, embrace theirs and proudly, gladly, over-the-moon happily declare, "couuunt on me".

Happy Valentine's Day. Let someone count.

Vaishnavi, I'm glad you're doing so well this semester. It's been my experience that life is a series of circles, the only problem is understanding which circle you happen to be standing in at any given moment.

Dear Jai,

Thank you for making time to come by in the midst of so much going on! I know what you mean... guess, life's of a good sort. At the end, and in the best time possible, we will be allowed to understand.

Btw, you can count on me. :) All the best with everything!
